Arnie will save us from global warming

Arnie will save us from global warming

Apparently Arnie has gone green and is going to save us from the ravages of global warming. I’m not kidding: it’s true!

Just look at the image again. Can you see him delivering us from global climate change? When someone mentions his name, I tend to think of consumption on a large and somewhat unnatural scale. Remember his fleet of Hummers. The huge explosions. The big muscles. He doesn’t immediately spring to mind when one thinks of a green hero, does he?

What it does show, when someone like Arnold Schwarzenegger decides to jump on the bandwagon, is that green really has gone mainstream.

After all, Arnie has got to do something when he steps down in January 2011. Making money probably doesn’t interest him anymore. He has just spent seven years as Governor of California, running the world’s sixth biggest economy. The big leaders tend to go for the big issues – but right now, most are taken. Tony has religion. Bill has global health.

What’s left? Climate change.

Yes: since he got divorced from Tipper, Al seems to have dropped that mantle and left a prized vacancy…

So what exactly is Arnie going to do?

For starters he needs to revamp his image. Lose the cigar. How many tonnes of CO2 have his  stoggies added over the years?

Perhaps a new name is also required. What about CO2nan the Destroyer?

Not that anything is going to stand in Arnie’s way when it comes to rescuing the world from the ravages of global warming. Why should it? He is the Terminator: unstoppable.

Already Arnie has formed the R20 climate network: a club of local leaders who have pledged to work together to fight climate change. The rest is a little sketchy right now, but I’m figuring that’s the guy’s style. Look at the CV. Bodybuilding. Model. Action Hero. Politician. A late run at the governorship. He understands his role in this. He is the star. The frontman whose job is to raise the profile of the cause. Good for Arnie.

Of course there is another theory going around. That perhaps Arnie the Global Warming Hero is a cyborg from the future. Maybe he knows something we don’t and is doing whatever it takes to prevent it happening in the first place. Maybe it’s connected to global warming. Maybe he knows how to prevent it and his new role will allow him to achieve that aim. Sounds unlikely but maybe it’s true.

Who knows? But it sounds like a helluva of a story to me…
